A volte non \u00e8 facile capire chi comanda nelle diverse zone di Cipro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

C'\u00e8 qualcuno, per\u00f2, che ha accesso incondizionato a qualsiasi angolo dell'isola e gode dell'immunit\u00e0 in qualsiasi situazione. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Appollaiati ovunque come creature magiche. Sempre al tuo fianco quando hai un po' di cibo. Venerati e curati da tutti. 
I gatti sono i veri sovrani di Cipro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parte della comunit\u00e0 locale<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Con una popolazione di circa 1,5 milioni (contro 1,2 milioni di umani), i gatti a Cipro non sono solo randagi o animali domestici: sono parte integrante della comunit\u00e0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gli abitanti locali spesso si prodigano per fornire cibo, riparo e cure mediche ai gatti randagi. Nei parchi ci sono piccoli rifugi in cui i gatti possono ripararsi, ed \u00e8 comune vedere ciotole d'acqua e di cibo vicino alle porte delle case.
A volte si potrebbe pensare che i gatti siano trattati meglio degli umani, e in alcuni casi \u00e8 vero.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ho visto persone che si sono innamorate dei gatti ciprioti e hanno deciso di portarli con s\u00e9 quando sono tornati nei loro Paesi d'origine; un'amica ha portato il suo gatto cipriota nella Repubblica Ceca e un'altra fino in Argentina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Perch\u00e9 ci sono cos\u00ec tanti gatti a Cipro?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Ci sono molte teorie su come la popolazione felina cipriota sia potuta crescere cos\u00ec tanto. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Secondo una leggenda, nel 320 d.C. l'imperatrice romana Sant'Elena port\u00f2 centinaia di gatti dall'Egitto a Cipro per scacciare i serpenti dal monastero di San Nicola dei Gatti.
Un'altra leggenda sostiene che fu Cleopatra, regina d'Egitto, a spedire i gatti a Cipro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ma la presenza dei gatti sull'isola \u00e8 molto pi\u00f9 antica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Un'amicizia millenaria<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Questo profondo amore tra i ciprioti umani e felini ha un'origine antica, che risale a diversi millenni fa. 
Nel sito archeologico di Shillourokambos (distretto di Limassol), in una tomba di circa 9.500 anni fa, gli archeologi hanno trovato gli scheletri di un umano e di un gatto, distesi uno accanto all'altro. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Questo ha reso Cipro il sito in cui sono state trovate le pi\u00f9 antiche prove dell'addomesticamento umano dei gatti, anzich\u00e9 l'Egitto come si pensava in precedenza. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nonostante tutto, ti piaceranno<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I gatti ciprioti sono molto amichevoli e da quando mi sono trasferita sull'isola hanno iniziato a piacermi di pi\u00f9. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Durante i periodi di solitudine dei lockdown per il Covid, quando le strade erano vuote e io vivevo da sola, trovavo sempre qualche gatto con cui giocare nelle poche ore in cui potevamo uscire di casa. 
Ho sempre qualcuno che si siede accanto a me se prendo un caff\u00e8 o vado a mangiare fuori. 
Ammiro come insistono spudoratamente per essere accarezzati e per avere qualcosa da mangiare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alla fine, anche se sono e sar\u00f2 sempre una persona che ama i cani, devo ammetterlo: l'isola in cui vivo \u00e8 governata dai gatti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
