Oxi market is Nicosia’s weekly farmers’ market.
Right on the city walls, it is located on the Costanza bastion, just few meters from Oxi roundabout. Oxi market (pronounced Ohi) takes place inside a parking area, next to the Ottoman Bayraktar Mosque and its lovely garden.
My personal Saturday morning routine includes walking to Oxi market as soon as I wake up. I buy fresh fruit, vegetable, free range eggs, get back home and prepare my breakfast. Actually, one of the reasons why I go is also a delicious tahini pie, that is an essential part of my weekend breakfast.
The farmers sell local fruits and vegetables, which come directly from the fields, mostly from Nicosia’s district. All products are fresh, you can also find eggs, cheese, oil, cold cuts, bread, nuts, plants and so on.
Prices are usually more convenient than in supermarkets.
If you are trying to learn Greek, this is a good occasion to practice, as some sellers do not speak any English.
At the entrance of the market there is a Kafeneio (traditional coffee shop), where many people gather to have coffee and chat.
The vibe of the market is the one of true Cypriot style and hospitality. People are friendly and usually everyone is happy to be there.
The market is open every Wednesdays and Saturdays from around 6-7am until 3pm. You might choose to go before 1pm as some products can run out.
The market is closed on public holidays and in case of adverse weather conditions.
If you want to see, breath and taste the fresh flavors and colors of Cyprus, you cannot miss a visit!
